Proofreading

You’ve made it to one of the final stages before publication! Proofreading occurs after your manuscript has been copyedited and laid out in its final format for printing. Before you publish your work, I will look for any lingering mistakes and formatting errors. Typically, proofreading is completed in PDF format using annotation tools and comments in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Proofreading at Alinea Editorial focuses on correcting definite errors in the following categories:

  • Mechanics, such as spelling, punctuation, hyphenation, and capitalization
  • Content, such as sequence, table of contents, and captions
  • Layout, such as spacing, word breaks, margins, numbering, and graphics
  • Typography, such as formatting, font type, font size, and special characters

Note: Proofreading does not include tasks such as rewriting, writing new content, or editing for wordiness, imprecise wording, jargon, or language usage that is not an outright error.

If you require more intensive editing before your manuscript is laid out for printing, I suggest copyediting services. Are you looking for general feedback and recommendations? Consider requesting a manuscript evaluation.
